November was a very busy month in the Counseling Center. We celebrated many different activities including: Red Ribbon Week, Military Day, and Bullying Prevention Week. We want to thank all of the staff, parents, and the students for making these events so successful and enjoyable.
December meetings and events will be as follows:
December 8 - Kathy Hueste, from Lake Career and Technical Center, will be here to meet with all 8th and 10th grade students. She will discuss course selections, scheduling, credits, and other necessary information a student needs to enroll at LCTC during their junior and/or senior year.
December 9 - A college visit to Linn State Technical College in Linn, Mo. is scheduled. Any interested sophomore, junior, or senior may sign up to attend. Permission slips will be available for this trip on November 30th and must be returned with parent signature no later than December 5. The bus will depart at 7:30 A.M. and return to Climax Springs prior to bus dismissal. Students will need to provide their own transportation to school on that day in order for the bus to leave by the 7:30 A.M. deadline. Lunch will be provided by the college.
ACT test day. Climax Springs is not a test site on this date. The next registration date for ACT is January 13 for the February 11 test. Climax Springs is scheduled to be a test site at this time provided ten or more students sign up to test. Now is a good time for juniors to plan to take the ACT test for college entrance scores.
December 13 - The students in both Mr. Collins and Mrs. Phillips’ Government classes will be taking their EOC test. Parents can help by making sure their child has s good night’s sleep. Please avoid scheduling any appointments outside of school on that date.
December 14 - Eighth grade students will tour LCTC to observe classes in the different career areas. Permission slips will be available on December 5 and need to be returned to the Counselor’s Office by December 12.
Also on December 14, There will be a Senior lunch meeting in the lower library from 11:30 A.M. to noon. We will be discussing the FAFSA information and how to obtain a pin number for both student and parent. If you have a senior who plans to attend college, a trade school, or any other post-secondary training, it is important that you have your 2011 taxes prepared as soon as possible. This information will be needed to complete the FAFSA application. Many schools ask that you have your FAFSA submitted by March 1, 2012. You can view the website www.fafsa.gov to obtain a paper copy of the FAFSA application for 2011-2012.The paper copy can be used to gather your information in preparation for applying online. In early February a Financial Aid Night will be scheduled to offer parents/students assistance in completing their FAFSA application. If you have any questions, feel free to call the Counselor’s Office at 573-347-2351 ext. # 138 to speak to Mrs. O’Dell.
